It's officially panic time in Dallas. The Cowboys' overtime loss to the lowly Arizona Cardinals- who had just a 4% chance of winning the game before their backup quarterback and third-string running back came in- sent the team to 3-5, put the head coach on a seat made of molten lava, and left the team reeling with new injuries to several starters.
Malachi Lawrence could miss several weeks, Caleb Downs and P.J. Locke are both in concussion protocol, and Joey Porter Jr. and Jake Ferguson are dealing with ankle injuries. A Cowboys team expected to be interested buyers at the trade deadline suddenly has many wondering if they'll start selling off key pieces instead. But Brian Schottenheimer also has much of Cowboys Nation looking for the "next man up" when it comes to his job. And it's not just the fans; everyone from Michael Irvin to Ben DiNucci, Chris Simms to Mike Tomlin are lining up to kick the Cowboys while they're as down as most can remember. One fan has even formally announced the end of his fandom with a heartfelt and suddenly-viral letter.
For Arizona, the unlikely Week 8 win has ushered in the Gardner Minshew era; he'll remain the starter at quarterback. Tyler Allgeier looks like he may also get the opportunity to build on his career day, as rookie Jeremiyah Love has a new ankle injury to deal with moving forward. And Cardinals tight end Trey McBride had some choice words for Caleb Downs during Sunday's game. It was brutal trash talk... but McBride has a point.
Elsewhere in the league, Lamar Jackson's injury may have brought his tenure in Baltimore to an early end, and the Lions provide an update on the scary injury to linebacker Jack Campbell. Green Bay says they're sticking with Josh Jacobs even after new allegations come to light, and Nick Sirianni vows he's not making any changes in Philly despite a six-game losing streak.
