Today in Boston Celtics history, former Celtics point forward Dalano Banton was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada, in 1999. Picking up the sport of basketball at a young age in his local community, Banton worked his way up to being a four-star recruit as a high school prospect, transferring to Redemption Christian Academy in Northfield, Massachusetts, and MacDuffie School in Granby, Massachusetts to boost his odds of making it to the next level.
He played his college ball at Western Kentucky and then later transferred to the University of Nebraska, declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft provisionally while maintaining his eligibility – and then staying in the draft. The gamble paid off for Banton, with the Canada native getting picked up by his hometown Toronto Raptors with the 46th overall pick of the draft.
Banton played two seasons with the Raptors before he signed with the Celtics in 2023 for his first stint with the storied ball club.
That stint ended with Boston dealing him to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2024, where he remained for two more seasons. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers before returning to the Celtics in 2026, his last stop in the NBA to date.
During his time playing for the Celtics, Banton put up 2.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.
