Charlton 1-3 Norwich City: Mathias Kvistgaarden's reaction

Pressure, criticism and concern was growing after a run of eight defeats in 11, but a much-improved performance at the Valley has provided some welcome respite as City seek to use the result as a springboard to greater consistency.

Kvistgaarden was given the nod and repaid Philippe Clement's faith with a goal and assist and his relief post-match was papable as Norwich halted their poor run of Championship form.

"Finally, I think that is the word. We've been in a period where we haven't actually been able to get the results we really wanted, and I think in some games we actually deserved.

"So to go here, it's a hard place to play, but to show our fans, and there were so many today, that we still can do it. That's wonderful," Kvistgaarden told the Pink Un.

"I think when we look at it, of course, there was also a lot of things that we still can work on, but if we look at it overall, I think we came and we made a performance that gave us the chance to get a deserved win."

The challenge now is ensuring that victory at the Valley represents more than an isolated result. Norwich have struggled to build momentum this season, with promising moments too often followed by setbacks.

Kvistgaarden has experienced how quickly fortunes can change over the course of a Championship campaign, however, and believes City possess the quality to turn one positive result into a more sustained run.

"It has been tough, of course, but it's football. It goes up and down and sometimes you get into a run. We saw it also last season. We went into a run first that was not what we wanted, but afterwards we went into a crazy one.

"We know in the team and the staff and the club that we can turn these things around because we have the quality for it," he said. "So hopefully this can be a start of a run or something. But we take it one game at a time.

"It's a big league. It's a long, long season. So there's so many games left. So we have to take it one step at a time. Now the next thing is to meet them tomorrow, do some good recovery and then prepare in the best way for the next game."
