Darts star Fallon Sherrock has celebrated earning a huge sum after defeating world champion Luke Littler

Fallon Sherrock has claimed that she earns less than fans might imagine after landing her huge windfall for defeating Luke Littler.

The ‘Queen of the Palace’ is already a star name at the oche after becoming the first woman to win matches at the PDC World Darts Championship in 2019. This feat has made Sherrock a familiar name within darts but has not always led to big paydays.

The 32-year-old beamed on Friday as she celebrated triumphing over the reigning world champion in a single-leg match, as Littler set out to defeat 20 amateur players live on Netflix. Sherrock, who was chosen to face Littler through a public vote, was the 15th contestant and won by finding a double 20, resulting in an eye-watering £501,000 jackpot.

“To be fair I was more nervous about not getting the vote (than facing Littler),” Sherrock told The Sun. “I’ll be honest, if you’d seen any videos or anything from the back room, I was shouting for people!

“It’s not because I want Luke to lose or anything, it’s because this prize money is life-changing. It’s definitely going to change my life. I feel like people think I have more money than I have, and I really haven’t.”

She continued: “I was just egging everyone on, especially some of my best friends Lauren (Bloomfield) and Katie (Sheldon). I’m just so happy right now because I’ve done it for us.”

Littler would have taken the £501,000 top prize home himself if the 19-year-old had been able to overcome his 20 opponents. Despite her sporting fame, Sherrock qualified for one of the amateur spots as she has never held a tour card during her career.

The former Women’s World Matchplay champion was picked to face Littler after receiving the overwhelming majority of votes in a head-to-head with Germany’s Jarod Becker. The win means Sherrock has received the second-highest windfall in darts history, outside of the £1million prize for becoming world champion, and was cheered on in Manchester by her young son Rory.

"It's insane!. "Honestly, I can't put into words just how much this means,” Sherrock said on Netflix. “It’s the first time my son's been to a darts tournament and he's seen me win.

"Sorry, I'm really lost for words right now. It’s a great moment and I'll remember this forever. I'm really proud of myself right now."

Speaking after their match, Littler said: “That's what one person had to do. Win the bull, go out, win 50, and that's exactly what Fallon did. I hit the 140 to leave the 142, and when she missed the first tops, I was like, 'give me a chance', but she didn't, and yeah- world-class."
