It was a first derby win for Marink Reedijk and they don't come much sweeter than a Hampden victory to tee up a Premier Sports Cup final

Hearts 1 (Braga '4) Hibs 2 (Boyle '19, McGrath '42)

Marink Reedijk and his Hibs made a double dose of history as they booked their place in the Premier Sports Cup final.

They will return to the national stadium to take on Rangers in the showcase on 13th December after their gutsy comeback in this 2-1 Edinburgh derby win.

Goals from Martin Boyle and Jamie McGrath cancelled out Claudio Braga’s opener for Hearts.

It saw Reedijk claim his first win as Hibs manager.

This long overdue victory came on the fifth attempt for the Dutchman but was worth the wait for everyone on the green side of the capital.

It was also a landmark win for Hibs, as it was the first time that they had beaten their city rivals at Hampden.

Hearts will be left counting the mental and physical cost of this one, as another couple of players limped off.

The Jambos now need to pick themselves up quickly for a Conference League visit to Thun on Thursday.

Hibs can start dreaming of that pre-Christmas return to Hampden and lifting the League Cup for the fourth time in their history.

The last time was back in 2007. Can they do it again in 2026?

Here are our five talking points from Hampden...

Claudio sends Hearts Radio Gaga

It took just four minutes for Hearts to take the lead. It was all too simple from a Hibs point of view. An in-swinging Calvin Miller corner found Braga, unmarked, between the two Hibs central defenders to head the ball into the net. Marko Ivezic had got underneath the ball and Jason Kerr hadn’t attacked it.

It gave the Portuguese star the easiest of headers to net his third goal in as many games. It sparked wild Hearts celebrations and his trademark “Claudio Braga” song. It was exactly the start a team who were in poor form would have wanted to avoid.

Hibs finally come to the Boyle

The men in green might have been short of recent wins but they didn’t retreat into their shells. The took this game by the scruff of the neck. They looked particularly threatening up their left, as they targeted Jordi Altena.

Joe Newell’s defence-splitting pass sent Felix Passlack clear but Beau Reus raced off his line to block with his leg before gathering at the second time of asking. It was a golden chance, but they kept knocking and got their rewards in the 19th minute.

Newell played a lovely piercing ball into Owen Elding, he took a touch and lifted it over the top of the Hearts defence for Boyle to run on to. He beat Reus with a tidy finish off the post, as the keeper came off his line to try and narrow the angle. The green side celebrated this time but then there was the usual VAR nail-biting before it was shown that Altena had played the Hibs striker onside.

Cue the second Hibs’ celebration as the goal was officially awarded. It was no more than they deserved.

Hearts injury woes mount

Wouter Vrancken’s squad was already down to the bare bones, with Rogers Mato missing this game.

He joined the long-term injury victims, including Craig Halkett, Blair Spittal and Eduardo Ageu in the stands. Oisin McEntee was another who missed out.

So the last thing Vrancken would have wanted to see was Tomas Magnusson going down after he had headed a cross wide. The Hearts medical team went through the concussion protocols and the midfielder was replaced by Yan Dhanda.

It could leave Hearts with a major issue in central midfield, with Dhanda unavailable for Thursday’s clash with Thun.

Things were to get even worse when Miller went down with a leg injury. He tried to play on and went down again. He had to be replaced by Sabri Guendouz. Miller will be another major concern for Vrancken, losing another key player, ahead of another hectic domestic and European spell.

McGrath leaves Hearts in a Jam

Newell was particularly effective in the middle of the park for Hibs. He almost put Hibs ahead with a shot from just outside the box which skimmed Reus’ crossbar on the way over. The team in green had got on top and Hearts struggled to adapt to the loss of two key players.

Hibs took the lead just three minutes before the interval. Newell was heavily involved again. He charged past Braga and cracked in a shot that beat Reus but Malachi Fagan-Walcott got back to hook clear. The ball fell to McGrath, who swept it into the net. This game had been turned on its head. Vrancken had work to do going at the interval, although he would have wondered how his team hadn’t equalised. Josh McPake’s cross was met by the unmarked Braga, but he, somehow, headed wide.

Sallinger keeps Hibs dream alive

The second period was wide open. Both teams squared up and slugged it out. Hibs keeper Raphael Sallinger made a good stop from a tight angle to deny Braga. Boyle had a couple of chances to increase his side’s lead.

He couldn’t take either chance and with only one goal separating them, Hearts always had a chance. They had a big one when sub Sabri Guendouz cracked in a shot from just outside of the box but Sallinger was the hero made the save of the game to tip over.

Hibs replacement Thibault Klidge was denied up at the other end by Reus.

It didn't matter as Hibs had done the job. They had defied the odds. Can they do it one more time?
