The Clarets went ahead through Andreas Hountondji but collapsed at Sincil Bank after goals from Ben House and Dom Jefferies, plus a Mikkel Ladefoged brace.

The result leaves Burnley 22nd in the Championship table with one win from their opening 12 games, and Hayen's time in charge at Turf Moor has come to an end after three-and-a-half months.

A club statement read: "Burnley Football Club has dismissed Head Coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect. The board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season."
