Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf was involved in a heated on-field exchange with England all-rounder Will Jacks during their ODI tri-series encounter in Lahore on October 25. The confrontation drew the attention of the umpire and England batter Joe Root, who stepped in as tensions rose during Pakistan’s dramatic chase against England.
The incident became one of the major talking points from a match that ended with Pakistan securing a thrilling one-wicket victory. While the exchange added to the tension on the field, the contest was ultimately defined by Shadab Khan’s maiden international century and an extraordinary last-wicket partnership.
The confrontation reportedly took place during the closing stages of Pakistan’s chase, when the hosts were under pressure after losing nine wickets. A disputed wide-ball decision following a bouncer from Sam Curran to Shadab Khan contributed to the tense atmosphere.
Rauf, who was at the non-striker’s end, became involved in a verbal exchange with Jacks. Video footage showed the Pakistan fast bowler gesturing towards the England player with his bat as the disagreement intensified. The umpire intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further. Root also approached Rauf and appeared to help calm matters, guiding the Pakistan player away from the exchange.
The episode attracted attention because of the pressure surrounding the final overs, with Pakistan needing to complete the chase while having only one wicket remaining.
The disagreement did not appear to end with the immediate intervention. Reports indicated that Rauf and Jacks exchanged words again during the post-match handshakes, despite Pakistan having completed their remarkable victory.
The available footage and reports drew attention to the players’ reactions, although the precise details of their conversation were not publicly established.

Away from the confrontation, Shadab produced the defining performance of the match. The Pakistan all-rounder struck an unbeaten 113 off 96 deliveries, registering his maiden international century and keeping his side in contention after a dramatic collapse.
England had posted 241 all out, with Ben Duckett scoring 105 and Sam Curran contributing 42. Pakistan’s chase looked in serious trouble when they slipped to 154/9. However, Shadab found an unlikely partner in Rauf. The pair added an unbeaten 89 runs for the final wicket, turning a near-certain defeat into a memorable victory.
Rauf remained unbeaten on seven and struck the boundary that sealed the result, completing one of the most dramatic finishes of the tri-series.
Pakistan’s one-wicket win strengthened their position in the tournament, while England suffered another disappointing result despite Duckett’s century.
The Rauf–Jacks exchange added controversy to an already tense encounter. Nevertheless, Shadab’s remarkable innings and the decisive last-wicket stand ensured that Pakistan’s comeback remained the defining story of the match.
