Spurs Eye £13m Striker, But Should They Wait Until Summer?

Tottenham transfer news could take an interesting turn in January as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options during a difficult Premier League campaign.

Spurs sit 14th after a disappointing start to the 2026/27 season, despite spending around £300 million during the summer transfer window. A recent 2-0 victory away to Chelsea offered some encouragement, although De Zerbi still needs greater consistency from his forward line.

Dominic Solanke, Omar Marmoush and Richarlison provide different options in attack, but Tottenham must consider their long-term plans. With Marmoush and Richarlison both contracted until June 2027, Spurs must assess their future options while ensuring they retain enough firepower for the current campaign.

Tottenham transfer news: Spurs face competition for German prospect

Those contract concerns help explain why Tottenham are monitoring emerging forwards, and according to the report, the club have sent scouts to watch Monaco striker Paris Brunner.

The 20-year-old German has scored six goals in eight starts across competitions this season, including four in six Ligue 1 appearances and two in the UEFA Conference League. His performances have reportedly attracted Chelsea, while Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain continue to monitor his progress.

Brunner joined Monaco in August 2024 and remains contracted until June 2028. The Germany Under-21 international has scored twice in three appearances for his country at that level.

Transfermarkt values the forward at approximately £13 million, although Monaco could demand a different fee. The report links their financial pressure to a failed summer sales target after Everton abandoned a proposed move for Folarin Balogun.

That financial pressure could create an opportunity for Tottenham, with Monaco reportedly considering a January sale that would allow Brunner to return on loan for the remainder of the season.

Should Tottenham sign Brunner despite the delayed arrival?

Tottenham should explore the deal, provided Monaco accept sensible terms. A January agreement with a loan-back clause would secure a promising forward without disrupting De Zerbi’s current attacking plans.

Brunner’s movement, pressing and ability to threaten the penalty area could suit the manager’s preference for forwards who link play and create space for advancing teammates. However, his limited senior experience makes any projection uncertain.

Spurs must prioritise their immediate league position while preparing for potential contract departures. Signing Brunner for next season would address a future recruitment need, but it would do little to improve their current position if he remained at Monaco until the summer.

A deal near his reported valuation could make sense, provided Tottenham avoid an inflated fee and a bidding war with Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG. The recruitment team must assess his development carefully, protect the club’s wage structure and preserve sufficient funds for players who can strengthen De Zerbi’s squad immediately.
