The NTT IndyCar Series will not return to Nashville in 2027, Scott Borchetta confirmed to The Tennessean.
Borchetta is founder, chairman and CEO of Borchetta Bourbon, the title sponsor of the Music City Grand Prix. Borchetta's companies, between Borchetta Bourbon and Big Machine Records, have sponsored the race since its inception.
IndyCar returned to the Nashville market in 2021 with the Music City Grand Prix on the downtown street course. The race was held on the street course from 2021-2023, then moved to Nashville Superspeedway in 2024 as construction began on the new Nissan Stadium.
Borchetta said the event still desires a return to a downtown street course.
"SMI and Nashville Superspeedway have been great partners in hosting the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix for the last three years," Borchetta said to The Tennessean. "But the original vision for the grand prix still stands — to become 'The Monaco of the South'. If we don’t put our complete focus and investment into returning downtown, it won’t happen. IndyCar and FOX love Nashville, and there is a great desire to return to its downtown streets."
Last year's Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway was postponed to a Monday race on July 20 due to rain.
Prior to 2021, IndyCar held races at Nashville Superspeedway from 2001-2008.
IndyCar is adding a race next season in Barcelona, Spain, IndyStar previously reported.
