5 Jonathan Taylor landing spots as Colts enter post-Chris Ballard era

The Indianapolis Colts were long overdue for a change. Chris Ballard delivered only two playoff appearances and one postseason win over 10 seasons, prompting owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon to fire the general manager and start a new era in Indianapolis.

Jonathan Taylor is arguably the biggest prize of the Ballard regime, and he could be heading out the door as well. Several NFL teams are eying Taylor as a potential trade acquisition, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder, who says the Colts are unsure of whether they'll deal their star running back or their other valuable players.

While the NFL world is pondering Taylor's future, Taylor himself is simply looking at the opponent ahead.

"I haven't given any thought," Taylor said. "That'd be crazy right now, especially because we've got a great Minnesota Vikings team that we have to go against. I think it would be a discredit and a disservice to my teammates and this whole organization to think about what could, what should, what may be."

A trade may not be on Taylor's mind, but here are five landing spots for him if the Colts decide to go that route.

Seattle Seahawks

Jadarian Price has battled injury and fumbling woes as Seattle's run game has been pathetic thus far. Zach Charbonnet isn't the answer, but perhaps Taylor is. The three-time Pro Bowler could give the Seahawks some much-needed stability on the ground to help Sam Darnold cut down on his turnovers.

Denver Broncos

Most of the talk around Denver's offensive struggles are centered around Bo Nix and his unwillingness to throw deep, but the run game has been massively inefficient as well. J.K. Dobbins is averaging 3.3 yards per attempt and R.J. Harvey best projects as a third-down back. Taylor could thrive behind Denver's talented offensive line.

The Panthers famously traded star running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, and now is their chance to get another stud at the position. Bryce Young and the passing game are clicking on all cylinders without much talent at running back (apologies, Chuba Hubbard). A Taylor trade could make Carolina one of the NFL's most fearsome offenses.

Chase Brown has struggled as the Bengals have pivoted to more under-center run looks, making Samaje Perine a surprise contributor this season. And if Perine is playing meaningful snaps in the year 2026, something is deeply wrong. It wouldn't get much better than a skill position trio of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Taylor.

New England Patriots

TreVeyon Henderson is on a one-way train to Bust Town while Rhamondre Stevenson has been... fine. Taylor would provide a massive upgrade in New England, which is battling offensive line injuries that Taylor has the ability to mitigate.
