The New Jersey Devils fell behind 2-1 late in the first period in Las Vegas when Mark Stone and Ivan Barbashev scored 90 seconds apart. Then they scored the next four. Arseny Gritsyuk tied it before intermission and added another late in the second, Jack Hughes scored twice, Luke Hughes opened the scoring, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 19 of 21 in a 5-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. That bounce-back puts the Devils at 9-5-0 and leaves Hellebuyck 2-0 in New Jersey.
Elsewhere, Elliotte Friedman compared the Hellebuyck trade to a famous baseball deadline deal, the San Jose Sharks put a real offer on the table for Simon Edvinsson, and the Colorado defenseman who got hurt against the Devils on Wednesday will miss about two months. The links are below.

In 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman says the Devils trading for Hellebuyck reminds him of the Toronto Blue Jays getting David Price in 2015: a team that already defends the slot well at even strength, per Sportlogiq, but whose save percentage hasn’t matched. He also wonders whether Hellebuyck will appeal the 18-day suspension the Winnipeg Jets gave him for staying away from camp, says the Minnesota Wild are dangling Danila Yurov, another veteran and first-round picks for Dylan Larkin, and corrects last week’s claim that Brenden Dillon used his no-trade protection last season.
Friedman also reports the Sharks’ talks with the Detroit Red Wings are “substantive,” with at least one serious offer that Detroit turned down. Sheng Peng looks at why the Sharks have made a “serious” Edvinsson offer while the Red Wings want a young center, and which San Jose centers could be in play. Edvinsson must sign by Dec. 1 to play this season.
Larkin’s old teammates sound ready to turn the page. “We’re happy with the guys who are here,” Alex DeBrincat said after Thursday’s 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, and Kevin Allen has more on how the Detroit Red Wings players are reacting to Larkin’s departure. Detroit is 5-1-3 in its last nine games and a point out of a playoff spot.
The Colorado Avalanche lost a defenseman in Wednesday’s win over the Devils. Coach Jared Bednar said Josh Manson is out long-term with an ankle injury, “probably looking at eight weeks,” which pushes Noah Juulsen into a bigger role.
Former New York Rangers goalie Martin Biron was asked which matters more to the Metropolitan Division race, Igor Shesterkin’s season-ending knee injury or Hellebuyck landing in New Jersey. His answer, to Jim Cerny: Hellebuyck’s trade has the bigger impact. “Without Shesterkin, it’s going to be a lot harder. Especially with Hellebuyck going to New Jersey.”
Anton Lundell, who would have been a Winnipeg Jet had the Jets gotten what they wanted from Florida for Hellebuyck this summer, came into Friday with one goal and left with a hat trick. Seth Jones also scored as the Florida Panthers beat the Jets for the second straight game, 5-2, and Winnipeg has now lost eight straight.
