The Celtic captain had stated, "players behave like a winger, or they behave like a striker" as he offered his take on the tactical approach and system.

Camilo Duran and Callum Osmand have both operated as wingers in recent months, despite both naturally wanting to play centrally as strikers.

O'Neill was quizzed on his thoughts on McGregor's verdict, but initially said he wasn't aware of what had been said by the club captain.

"I have no idea what Callum McGregor said," was O'Neill's response.

After a second question, which set out McGregor's view, O'Neill said: "I've said this to you before, so I totally agree.

"I totally agree that Callum Osmand is actually really a centre forward, I've said this at the press conference, that he is essentially a centre forward, he probably would play off somebody strong alongside him, I'm not so sure that he could lead the line on his own.

"And that Camilo Duran is really a centre forward, so the players are getting to know each other, it's as really simple as that there, so I'm in total agreement with Callum."

McGregor had said: "I think probably what you're seeing is a lot of that, it's not really having a nailed down profile for each of the positions.

"The players behave like a winger, or they behave like a striker.

"You can get away with it for a few games but if it’s a striker playing as a winger, you are going to get that behaviour a lot of the time.

"You’ve got enough quality so you can score goals and get away with it. But we have to try to get the team functioning the way it should."
