Phil Parkinson's side go into the Championship game at The Racecourse on the back of Friday's 1-0 loss away to Sheffield United which was the third defeat in four league outings.
Wrexham were dreadful in the first half, prompting the Reds' boss into making two changes for the second period and more later in the game as he welcomed back Max Cleworth and George Thomason from injury as substitutes at Bramall Lane.
It was a boost having the pair back but both have had lengthy spells on the sidelines and Parkinson has to decide whether it it is too soon to hand them starts tonight.
Both must come into the equation though as centre-back Cleworth did well when introduced at United while Jacques Ekomie has been superb at left wing-back this season but he has played a lot of games and not been given a breather so Thomason stands-by.
Danny Imray and Issa Kabore have shared the duties on the right flank so the former could replace the latter who started against the Blades.
Ben Sheaf and Matty James formed the midfield at United with Ben Whiteman on the bench as Parkinson reverted to a 3-4-2-1 system for the first half but it didn't go well and it was a 3-4-1-2 after the break with Ollie Rathbone taken off and Smith brought into attack alongside Kieffer Moore.
Callum O'Hare is still an injury doubt so Parkinson is without a number of creative midfielders - Josh Windass and Nathan Broadhead are also missing - as well as Smith who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury last Friday.
Bailey Cadamarteri is an attacking option but it could mean Rathbone and Lewis O'Brien get another chance as the two number 10s.
Wrexham predicted starting XI (3-4-2-1): Patterson; Hyam, Worrall, Doyle; Imray, Sheaf, James, Thomason; Rathbone, O'Brien; Moore.
