No pressure, Robbie Savage! Peterborough owner vows to SELL his share of the club if new manager fails to take under-performing side into League One's top 10 by February

Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has declared he will sell the club if their results fail to improve under new manager Robbie Savage.

Savage was contentiously hired by MacAnthony earlier this month, with his former club Forest Green Rovers accusing Peterborough of making an illegal approach for the Welshman before he moved.

Savage won his first two games in charge of Posh but they are currently on a four-game winless run in all competitions - which includes Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at Bradford City in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Tuesday's loss sparked more discontent among the club's fan base with MacAnthony making his shock vow in response to one annoyed supporter on X.

Tagged in a post that it is his fault for Peterborough's failings this season, MacAnthony defended himself by writing: 'Yep Dave [Porter, the fan in question] that idea (which we've had for 20 seasons) just won't work at this level as it never has right.

'But being serious for a moment; I take full responsibility for all the squads built over my 20 years owning Posh.

'For some reason I have a lot of confidence in the current one. RS [Robbie Savage] will bring the best out of them & we as owners will support him in doing so.

'My promise to you the fans is always honesty, so I make a promise that if this squad isn't top 10 by February, I'll put my share of the club up for sale & let others take the baton with our wonderful club.'

MacAnthony's promise is a big one considering Peterborough will have more concerns over preserving their League One status than a top 10 finish currently.

After 12 matches they find themselves 21st in League One on 10 points - eight adrift of Mansfield Town who are currently 10th in the table and have played a game fewer.

In fact as it stands, Peterborough currently occupy the final spot in the relegation zone.

MacAnthony became the youngest chairman in EFL history when he bought Peterborough aged 30 in 2006. He is the majority owner with a share of 75 per cent, alongside minority investors Gary Graham and Greg Barr (20 per cent), and IRC Investments Limited (5 per cent), which is linked to Iain Crawford.

He and Savage will be hoping their fortunes can change on Saturday when they host Luton in League One.
