OAKWELL ROUND-UP: Cup tie confirmed and four loanee goals

Some of the stories coming out of Oakwell this midweek.

READING UP NEXT FOR OFF-FORM REDS

Barnsley will have to recover quickly from their midweek loss at Luton Town when they make another lengthy trip to Reading on Saturday.

The Reds are 22nd in League One having lost eight and drawn one of their last nine games in all competitions.

The Royals are currently eighth but could go into the top six if they beat Leyton Orient on Wednesday.

ALDERSHOT TO VISIT IN FA CUP

BARNSLEY will host National League club Aldershot Town in the FA Cup first round next month.

The games are due to take place on the weekend of November 6-9.

Aldershot beat their fellow Hampshire club Tadley Calleva – who are in the ninth tier and were the lowest ranked side left in the competition – 2-0 away on Tuesday after drawing 2-2 at home at the weekend.

They are currently 12th in the National League, where they have been playing since they were relegated from the EFL in 2013.

They have never played Barnsley but the Reds played 17 games against the original Aldershot which closed down in 1992 and was replaced by the current outfit.

The most recent meeting was a 3-0 FA Cup victory for the Reds in 1987.

UNDER 21S TO FACE ROSSINGTON

BARNSLEY under 21s are due to host Rossington in the Sheffield Senior Cup on Friday from 7pm.

The young Reds won their first game in the cup 7-0 against Swinton Athletic last month.

This week, they drew 2-2 at Fleetwood Town in the league on Tuesday.

A trialist from non-league football scored both goals.

Clayton Taylor, Luca Connell and O’Rian Reid all started.

After Rossington, they are set to host Peterborough United on Monday from 1pm.

Barnsley under 18s lost 2-1 at home to Huddersfield Town.

Kishan Dass pulled one back late on.

They are now due to visit Sheffield United on Saturday.

LOANEES MAY MEET AFTER MIDWEEK BRACES

BARNSLEY loanees Leo Farrell and Charlie Lennon could face each other in the National League on Saturday – having both bagged braces in FA Cup replays on Tuesday.

Fourth-placed Yeovil Town, for whom winger Lennon has been mainly a substitute this season, are due to host sixth-placed Altrincham Town whom Farrell joined this month.

Farrell netted twice in a 6-2 win at FC United of Manchester on Tuesday to make it three in three games since leaving Oakwell.

Lennon also notched a double in a 5-2 home success for the Glovers over Leatherhead.
