Update on Xhaka Switzerland situation and availability for Scotland

The Sunderland midfielder was suspended for Switzerland's opening Nations League game, which included a win at Hampden against Sebastien Pocognoli's side, along with Atalanta United striker Breel Embolo.

Both were under investigation for the fake Covid vaccination certificates they obtained in 2022.

Xhaka and Embolo were fined £136,000, suspended for two years on condition that the players do not commit any further violations.

Swiss FA national team director Pierluigi Tami said: "The specific circumstances of both cases, the concluded legal proceedings and the sporting consequences that have already been imposed were taken into account in the decision.

"We are convinced that a return to the national team in November is both responsible and the right thing to do."

Former Arsenal ace Xhaka,34, is set to add to his 152 caps when the Swiss face Scotland in St Gallen, while ex-Monaco star Embolo will hope to edge closer to his century of caps, having won 92 so far.
