Tuesday brought more worry to Jonathan Taylor’s household. Ayanna Taylor, the wife of the Indianapolis Colts running back, posted a string of anxious questions about her family’s future. She did it on the same day the Colts traded eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks.
Later that day, the 2-5 Colts sent veteran defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers too.
Ayanna minced no words from the opening line: “Is literally anyone safe on this team? It feels like rookie year all over again. My mind is spiraling.”
The questions kept coming. “What does this mean for my husband and I? Do I need to start packing our bags? Are we going to be spending our daughter’s first Halloween together? Will we make it to game day, or was last week the last time my husband is putting on a Colts jersey? What are we going to do without Quenton Nelson?”
Nelson brought back a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick from the Seahawks, according to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. Buckner is 32 and in the final year of his contract, and he fetched a 2027 fourth-round pick from the 49ers.
The deals followed last week’s firing of longtime general manager Chris Ballard, which came one day after a loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans. The Colts have now lost three straight, and Ed Dodds has stepped in as interim general manager.
Some who answered Taylor’s wife’s post focused on the human side of it, and one fan called it “the unfortunate part of the business.”
Another fan wrote: “I hope she survives this. Must be really tough.”
Not everyone was as understanding. “Why doesn’t she ask her husband?” another fan wrote.
Tuesday’s post wasn’t Ayanna’s first on the subject. Over the weekend, she shared two videos about the Colts’ situation.
Her husband spoke about the videos after Sunday’s 16-10 loss to the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings. He carried 18 times for 95 yards in that game and scored the Colts’ only touchdown on a 38-yard run. “It’s been out there already… her adding doesn’t really change anything. Everybody’s on TikTok these days.”
Another fan had an answer to Ayanna Taylor’s packing question: “Pack your bags. Time to learn Whodey.”
Others went further. “Clearly sending the message that JT wants out pronto, since she keeps posting like this,” one fan wrote.
Another fan wrote: “She wants out lol.”
The latest reporting on Taylor’s status came from Schefter on Tuesday, on “The Pat McAfee Show”: “They don’t want to trade Jonathan Taylor, which doesn’t mean that they won’t trade him, but I don’t think they want to. And today I would say they don’t. But there are other players that I believe will wind up being on the move here.”
Through Week 7, Taylor is fifth in the NFL with 587 rushing yards on 140 carries and tied for first with eight rushing touchdowns. He is also 10th in the PFN RB Impact Rankings with an 81.4 grade.
Halloween falls on Saturday, and the Colts play at the Jacksonville Jaguars the next day. The Nov. 10 trade deadline comes nine days after that game.
