‘Brian Schottenheimer Has Lost the Locker Room,’ ‘Team Is Literally Falling Apart’ — Cowboys Fans React to Players’ Surprising Decision

The sky seems to be falling for the Dallas Cowboys at 3-5. Beyond their record, the way they’ve been losing has left many stunned, especially after they were viewed as a legitimate NFC contender during the offseason.

The frustration appears to be reaching the locker room, too. After the latest loss, most Cowboys players left the facility before reporters arrived for media availability, leaving no one to speak with. The unusual scene has only made fans’ calls for head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s firing louder as things continue to go from bad to worse in Dallas.

Fans React to Unusual Cowboys Locker Room Scene

The situation came on the heels of an ugly loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Even after Arizona turned to Gardner Minshew at quarterback, the Cowboys blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost 33-30 in overtime.

Add in disappointing losses to the New York Giants in Week 1 and a Jalon Daniels-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad in Week 5, and the season has become a string of lowlights for Dallas. The Cowboys also remain dead last at No. 32 with a PFN Defense Impact Score of 60.6.

But after the Week 8 loss, the team’s struggles appeared to be taking a toll inside the locker room as well. According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, most players had already left the facility by the time reporters arrived for locker room availability.

“The Cowboys just had locker room availability, but the majority of the roster left the facility before we got in there,” Machota tweeted. “No players were interviewed. Can’t say I remember that happening before.”

Adding some context, Machota wrote, “The Cowboys had a player development meeting that got out before the media was brought down to the locker room. Media relations said we should’ve been brought down earlier than we were.”

Still, the unusual scene raised more questions about the mood inside the team. With the Cowboys continuing to lose, some fans and reporters believe the players are starting to lose faith in the season.

“Roster/team/staff/organization is cooked,” RJ Ochoa announced.

One fan agreed, claiming, “Mentally, they have all checked out. It’s over. Losing like that sticks with you for a while.”

Tom Downey admitted he wasn’t sure what to make of the situation, writing, “I don’t really know what this means, if it even means anything… Therefore, I shall interpret it literally: Brian Schotteneheimer has lost the locker room and doesn’t know where they are.”

Thecommon sentiment was clear, as another fan wrote, “The locker room has been lost. Schotty has lost the room,” while the Sleeper Cowboys X page also waved the white flag, writing, “This team is beyond cooked.”

Some fans believe the situation has reached a point where coaching changes are necessary, as one X user claimed, “Team is literally falling apart. Need coaching change asap.”

Another fan added, “Yeah, just fire Schotty. Even the locker room don’t [expletive] with him.”

For one Dak Prescott fan, the situation was a disservice to his superstar quarterback as he claimed, “We gotta get Dak out of here, man. He deserves better.”

The common feeling of despair was prevalent throughout the fanbase, asone X user exclaimed, “Brian done lost that locker room. Sad times, man. How much longer can we deal with this misery?”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Cowboys. But for the time being, it doesn’t look like a change at head coach is something the team is considering as a legitimate possibility.

When asked if changes to the coaching staff were coming, Jerry Jones dismissed the possibility: “That’s not on my mind at this time.” He also defended Schottenheimer, saying, “A lot of people let Brian down today, and so for whatever criticism we want to have of Brian, we can all get in line.”

Still, if the Cowboys can’t turn things around soon, then the owner/general manager might be forced to make a change sooner rather than later.
