Texas A&M''s Kaia Castle named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

Kaia Castle dominated at the net for Texas A&M volleyball last week. On Monday, the conference recognized her performance.

Castle was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 17 blocks across two matches against No. 6 Tennessee and No. 14 Texas. The junior middle blocker averaged 2.43 blocks per set and accounted for 19.5 points. Castle delivered her best performance Friday against Tennessee, finishing with a season-high 12 blocks in the Aggies' four-set victory. Her total ranked fourth in program history for a four-set match and helped Texas A&M record a season-high 16 team blocks.

She followed that performance with five blocks Sunday against Texas, marking her seventh match this season with at least five blocks. Although the Aggies fell in three sets, Castle remained a consistent presence defensively.

Below is the excerpt from the release from conference officials:

Texas A&M’s Kaia Castle, a junior middle blocker from Buffalo, Minn., averaged 2.43 blocks per set over two matches this past weekend. Castle recorded a season-high 12 blocks in Friday’s win over No. 6 Tennessee, the most by any SEC player in a four-set match this season and the second-best four-set block total in program history. She followed with five blocks against No. 14 Texas, her seventh match this season with five or more blocks and her sixth in her last seven matches.

Castle and the Aggies (14-9, 7-4 SEC) return to action Friday, Nov. 6, when they travel to Nashville to face No. 23 Vanderbilt. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
