The Golden State Warriors have signed, drafted, and traded for players from nearly every U.S. state and many countries around the world. From Alaska to Wyoming and Austria to Zaire, the Warriors have a strong history of seeking out talent necessary for NBA success.
Since their beginnings in the Basketball Association of America (a precursor to the NBA) when they got their start as the team representing Philadelphia before they made their move to the West Coast, the organization has consistently pursued talent from a broad range of sources.
For this installment of our series taking stock of the birthplace of every Golden State player to suit up for the franchise, let's take a look at every player from Alabama who has played for the Warriors.
Our focus in this article is Larry Kenon. An alum of Memphis, he was picked up with the 50th overall selection of the 1973 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.
The Birmingham native played the first 2 seasons of his pro career with the ABA's (then) New York Americans (now, Brooklyn Nets), coming to an end when he was dealt to the San Antonio Spurs in 1975. He also played for the Chicago Bulls before he signed with the Golden State Warriors in 1982. His stay with the team lasted until his contract was sold to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1983.
During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Kenon put up 3.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
