King's Lynn beat Spennymoor 2-0 in National League North

King’s Lynn Town sent a get well message to manager Paul Caddis with a comfortable victory over struggling Spennymoor.

Goals in each half, from a Kwame Thomas penalty and Ross Crane, made it four home games unbeaten – a tonic for Caddis who was laid up at home, leaving assistant Adam Rooney in charge.

Lynn kept the same starting XI served them well in last weekend’s 3-0 win at Hereford.

They had the first chance of the game, Crane getting a lucky break as he advanced, before finding Harley Hamilton whose cross from the right was met by Jesse Nwabueze. The wide man screwed his first time effort, which looped high into the air and somehow managed to be just about on target.

The hosts were in control, but there was a warning on 22 minutes when Richie Bennett headed just wide of Ronnie Hollingshead’s right post.

Lynn broke again after good work by Zak Mills, who found Jesse Nwabueze who this time opted against a sidestep and shot and instead laid the ball back tor Crane, whose low shot hit the base of the right-hand post.

The hosts made the breakthrough on 37 minutes when Nwabueze’s twisting and turning lured in George Cantrill, who brought him down – Thomas stepped up and put Lynn ahead, keeper Matthew Irwin’s fingers not strong enough to keep out the shot.

Again there was a warning, Ethan Moore trying to slip a ball in after lax defending only for Hollingshead to get an excellent touch.

Thomas came within inches of meeting a good cross by Jahmari Lindsay from the left but was denied by some excellent defending.

But the visitors – with prolific marksman Glen Taylor joining proceedings - started the second half better, but it didn’t last long.

Lynn wasted a three-against one chance to extend their lead on the break, before Crane had an effort disallowed.

Lynn needed an insurance goal and it came on 72 minutes. Tom Scott, seconds after coming on, pushed the ball wide right to Crane, who beat one defender and then slid the ball under the keeper.

Crane was on fire on the second half but wasted more opportunities with a header which Urwin saved well and then a shot which just cleared the bar.
