Francesco Bagnaia’s impending switch to Aprilia in 2027 is shaping up to be far more than a mere team change—it’s a declaration of war against Marc Marquez. After two difficult seasons overshadowed by Marquez’s dominance at Ducati, the double world champion is reportedly fueled by a fierce desire for revenge, according to his agent Carlo Pernat. Pernat paints a dramatic picture of Bagnaia’s mindset, claiming the word “VENGEANCE” is emblazoned in giant capital letters on the rider’s wall, symbolizing his relentless focus on reclaiming his status at the pinnacle of MotoGP.

Pernat delivers a scathing verdict on Bagnaia’s decline since Marquez joined Ducati. “In my opinion, of all his teammates, Marquez has destroyed him the most,” Pernat stated in an interview with Moto.it. At the end of 2024, Bagnaia was still an absolute MotoGP benchmark, narrowly missing a third world title by just ten points to Jorge Martin. However, Marquez’s arrival in 2025 disrupted the team hierarchy. The Spaniard swiftly became Ducati’s new standard-bearer, clinching the world championship while Bagnaia’s dominance waned. Pernat insists this downturn is not just technical but psychological, describing it as a “major weakness” in Bagnaia’s mentality.

What strikes Pernat most is that Bagnaia had every advantage to continue winning: the same team, manager, and mechanics he had previously thrived with. “He had everything,” Pernat emphasized, rejecting any excuse tied to changes in environment or team dynamics. The agent argues that Marquez’s presence fundamentally altered Bagnaia’s competitive spirit, casting a long shadow over his performance. While technical factors and adaptation challenges can affect results, the comparison between the two riders clearly favors Marquez, forcing Bagnaia into a diminished role within Ducati.

Looking ahead to Aprilia, Pernat reveals that Bagnaia accepted a significant pay cut to pursue a fresh start with the RS-GP. This move, Pernat claims, is driven by pure ambition rather than financial gain. “He wrote ‘vengeance’ on a wall, and not just in small letters—big, capital letters,” Pernat said, even invoking Dante’s Inferno to underscore Bagnaia’s resolve: “Qui si parrà la tua nobilitate,” a call to prove true nobility through struggle. Aprilia’s proven competitiveness against Ducati offers Bagnaia a platform to reassert himself as a title contender away from Marquez’s looming shadow.

The 2027 season promises a compelling narrative: a champion fighting to redeem his pride and restore his place at the summit of MotoGP. Yet, Pernat acknowledges the challenges ahead, noting that adapting to a new manufacturer and bike philosophy will not guarantee immediate success. Still, the burning motivation behind Bagnaia’s move is unmistakable.

Carlo Pernat’s portrayal of Bagnaia’s transfer transforms it into a high-stakes drama of rivalry and redemption. If Bagnaia can harness this fiery determination at Aprilia, Ducati may soon learn that a wounded champion’s hunger for revenge can unleash an especially formidable adversary.
