Former Reds manager David Bell resigns from Toronto job
Former Reds manager David Bell, right, talks with former Reds first baseman Joey Votto in 2022.

Former Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell resigned as the Toronto Blue Jays' vice president of baseball operations and assistant general manager, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced Bell's hiring in Nov. 2024.

The Reds fired Bell in Sept. 2024, with one week left in the regular season, and hired Terry Francona to be their new manager the following month.

Bell, a former Moeller High School standout and the son of former Red Buddy Bell and grandson of Reds Hall of Famer Gus Bell, was the Reds' manager for six seasons.

Bell turned 54 years old in September.

In 2018, Bell was among candidates to interview with Toronto before the Blue Jays hired Charlie Montoyo to replace John Gibbons as manager.

Bell was the San Francisco Giants' vice president of player development when the Reds hired him in October 2018.
