Tom Brady told he 'could talk less' as his FOX performance faces scrutiny
ports analyst Tom Brady looks on prior to the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 18, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia

Tom Brady's performance in the booth leaves room for improvement, according to one pundit.

Brady is in his third season working for FOX as part of the network's No. 1 NFL coverage team. And while the 49-year-old has improved over the years as he's become more comfortable with a headset, there are still some steps he needs to take to continue improving as an analyst.

Jimmy Traina made it clear what he thought of the NFL legend's work on the airwaves after Brady called the Detroit Lions' 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers, which saw the return of an embattled star running back.

On his Traina Thoughts podcast, the Sports Illustrated personality believed that Brady had one of his best showings as an analyst. However, he noted there was still room for improvement for the seven-time Super Bowl champion. "I thought that was Brady's best game as an analyst," Traina began.

"He is so comfortable now. He was almost too comfortable. It's almost like he's talking a little too much. If I had one criticism, I would say he could talk a little less."

Despite his brief criticism, Traina praised how well Brady had acclimated himself in the booth after struggling at first. Part of what has made the 49-year-old much more successful this season is that he is using his experience to his advantage, breaking down concepts for fans in a digestible manner.

"He's become an A-level analyst, and I'm not just saying this because he went after the refs," Traina added. "What Brady gives you in terms of analyzing quarterbacks is next-level stuff. He's giving you things no other analyst is giving you."

An exemplification of Brady's maturation as an analyst can be traced back to the Los Angeles Rams' 24-20 Week 4 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The conditions were rainy in Philadelphia, with Los Angeles star quarterback Matthew Stafford struggling early.

Speaking to Kevin Burkhardt, his broadcast booth partner, Brady broke down how rain and condensation can affect a quarterback. "Well, you’re going to get a lot of beads [of rain] on the leather," Brady began, using a football to demonstrate his points.

"When that happens, obviously, it’s important to get a good grip, but you can’t transition your arm quite as quickly, because if there’s any backward momentum with the football and the ball is wet, it can splash out of the back of your palm."

He continued, "So a lot of times you’re a little bit slower in your mechanics, so you can transition that ball without losing it as a fumble.

"And then after you throw it, you expect the receiver that he’s got to catch it, but it’s a lot different for him too because there [are] beads on the ball, beads on his glove. Just the overall efficiency of the pass goes way down.

That’s why it plays to the defense’s advantage, and you’ve got to be able to run the football."

Though he struggled with the transition from the field to the booth, it is clear that Brady has gotten used to the intricacies of analyzing a game away from the grass.
