Chris Eubank Jr could find himself without the fight many expected when he eventually returns to the ring following a year out of action.
Eubank Jr last fought back in November when he lost his rematch to long-time British rival Conor Benn. He won the first fight by a wide points margin but in the return appeared to be struggling with the weight cut and was put down twice by the smaller, less experienced man.
Since then, Eubank has taken time out to recover from injury and has also had twin babies, but has recently been seen back in the gym.
Although he has mentioned a rubber match with Benn, who has since beaten Regis Prograis and lost a welterweight world title fight to Ryan Garcia, Michael Zerafa has also been discussed as a possible comeback opponent.
A new post on X explains that this may not happen, as the Australian could instead fight for a world title next.
“🚨 ZERAFA SET FOR WORLD TITLE SHOT
✅ With Denzel Bentley set to be stripped of his WBO middleweight title, the Eddie Hearn-promoted Australian Michael Zerafa is expected to fight Yoenli Hernandez for the vacant title.
💥 Hernandez is ranked No. 1 and Zerafa is No. 4. The No. 3 Tszyu will fight for the WBA against Erislandy Lara and No. 2 Mielnicki is targeting a fight with Xander Zayas in 2027.”
Zerafa is well known to UK fight fans for losing to Kell Brook back in 2018. He has also twice fought Jeff Horn – wining once and losing the rematch, and also lost his first world title fight with Erislandy Lara back in March 2024. He was last out in January when his fight with Nikiti Tszyu was ruled a no contest.
