Newcastle United player ratings from the 1-1 draw away to Fulham in the Premier League.

Newcastle United were held to a 1-1 draw away to Fulham in the Premier League.

The Magpies had a first-half goal from Dan Burn controversially ruled out before taking the lead in the 80th minute through Jacob Murphy’s magnificent strike.

But little under three minutes later, substitute Rodrigo Muniz levelled for the hosts.

Matthias Jaissle made four changes from the 1-0 defeat at home to Everton on Monday night. Malick Thiaw, Sean Steur, Jacob Murphy and Yoane Wissa came into the side in place of Fabian Schar, Joelinton, Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento returned to the squad as the injured Joelinton and suspended Jacob Ramsey dropped out. £30million summer signing Aladji Bamba travelled to Craven Cottage but wasn’t among the substitutes.

Harvey Barnes forced two big saves from Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno before Dan Burn had what he thought was a 35th-minute opener ruled out for a foul.

Murphy whipped the ball in from the right and Burn managed to poke home, however his celebrations were cut short after Wissa was penalised for what looked like a shirt pull on Timothy Castagne.

Newcastle went on to take the lead in the 83rd minute through Murphy’s left-footed strike from distance but conceded around three minutes later as the ball fell kindly to Muniz in the box after a couple of deflections.

Recovered well from his mistake on Monday night with a series of top-class saves. Denied Oscar Bobb and Josh King in the first-half before keeping out Ryan Sessegnon at 1-1.

Showed a strong level of tactical understanding in the first-half, often tucking in as the third centre-half while keeping a close eye on Alex Iwobi. Role changed slightly in the second half. Got a little clumsy in the latter stages.

Brought a bit of athleticism to Newcastle’s backline on his return to the XI. Read the game well, just couldn’t quite clear the ball in the build-up to Fulham’s equaliser.

Robbed of a goal against his former club in one of many strange decisions from the referee. Looked a lot more solid alongside Malick Thiaw. Unlucky to see Rodrigo Muniz’s goal deflect in off him.

Got better as the game progressed. Got forward well and should have really won it late on after his low save was saved by Bernd Leno.

Back in the team and showed why he has to continue to start after the international break. Neat, tidy and always looking for that forward pass.

Missed a hat-trick of chances, two of which were well saved by Bernd Leno and another he struck narrowly wide. Credit to getting in the right areas, but had to score.

Like Wissa, this was a pretty anonymous showing. Strolled around the pitch at times. Isn't running about like the young, hungry lad we saw last season.
