Bristol City and Michael Skubala will be hoping to avoid losing any players to suspension for reaching five bookings over the course of the coming weeks, as they aim to turn their fortunes, with a handful of matchdays still to come before the threshold resets.
So far this term, Adam Randell is the only City player to have missed a match through suspension. The midfielder was forced to sit out the Robins' August draw with Birmingham City at St Andrew's, after he was shown a red card in the opening-day defeat to Millwall.
Ahead of Saturday's trip to Bolton Wanderers, no player in Skubala's first-team squad has yet met the tally of yellow cards needed to warrant a one-game suspension. This season, players who pick up five bookings before or during the 19th matchday of the league campaign across all three divisions of the EFL will be handed a one-match ban.
The Reds' visit to the Toughest Community Stadium this weekend will be their 13th game of the Championship campaign. City's 19th, therefore, will come after the November international break, when they welcome Swansea City to Ashton Gate in the first week of December.
With seven matches to be played before the threshold resets, one or two players in the Robins squad may have to tread carefully in the coming weeks.
At the time of writing, Jason Knight is the player closest to walking a disciplinary tightrope. The City skipper has received three league bookings so far this term, having been cautioned against Stoke City last weekend, Watford before the extended break and Portsmouth, all the way back in August.
If the Ireland international is to enter the book on any two occasions across the Reds' games against Bolton, Wolves, Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Wrexham, West Brom or Swansea, he will be suspended for whichever game follows his fifth booking.
Behind the 25-year-old, Joe Williams and Lisav Eissat are the players in closest proximity to the five yellow card threshold. Both players have been booked twice this term - Eissat against Lincoln City and Southampton, Williams against the Saints and Watford - and therefore aren't exactly close to picking up a ban.
After Williams and Eissat, a whole host of Skubala's squad find themselves on one booking from 12 games. That cohort is made up of Brian De Keersmaecker, Dom Ballard, Elijah Adebayo, Lorent Tolaj, Luke McNally, Rio Cardines and Sam Greenwood.
Following Swansea's visit to BS3 in December - City's 19th game of the Championship campaign - the next threshold will be 10 bookings picked up within 37 matches. Players who reach that tally before such a point will be hit with a two-game suspension.
Of course, the make-up of the Robins' schedule could be altered over the coming weeks and months, but at this moment in time, their 37th game of the league campaign is scheduled to be a meeting with West Brom at Ashton Gate on March 13.
Hopefully, it won't get to this point for anyone in Skubala's squad, but should a player pick up 15 bookings before the end of the regular campaign, they would be hit with a three-game suspension.
Interestingly, only one Championship club has picked up fewer than City's 16 yellow cards so far this season. Like the Robins, Wrexham players have been cautioned on 16 separate occasions, but Middlesbrough's record of 12 bookings this term is the lowest tally of any team in England's second tier.
