Speculation is once again growing over the future of Gilberto Mora after Andoni Iraola was questioned on Liverpool’s interest - and the latest rumors might not be good news for the Reds.
Mora has been linked with a move to Anfield for the past few months now, having caught the eye with Mexico during the summer’s World Cup. A move to Europe looks as though it could be on the cards for the Tijuana ace, with Liverpool one of the most prominent names being touted as a possible destination.
In fact, the links have been so strong with Liverpool that Iraola found himself being asked about the club’s interest in the teenager this week - although the Spaniard kept his cards close to his chest.
“Let’s see, not only because of what he’s doing,” Iraola told TNT Sports Mexico after the Reds’ win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
“There are times when you ask me about players, but I can’t talk about players who aren’t ours, right? In the end, there’s respect.
“And there has to be respect between clubs and well, if you’ll allow me, I don’t have my opinion, obviously, but I prefer not to comment, not about players who aren’t from Liverpool.”
Iraola’s response came after Marca named Liverpool among the clubs interested in Mora, along with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, while also claiming that a move to Europe is “imminent”.
And now that Iraola has given his thoughts on the teenager - albeit without giving much away - Liverpool finds itself being drawn into more speculation around Mora’s future. The latest reports though suggest the Reds’ chances of signing him might be dwindling.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool has been in contact and retains a “strong interest”, but now has more competition for Mora’s signature in the form of Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Both clubs are claimed to be stepping up their efforts, having reached out to the player’s representatives and presented their cases to try and convince him on a move to France or Italy.
Mora is said to be prioritizing his long-term development, and will favor whichever club can offer consistent game time to him. It’s even suggested that a deal could be agreed in the coming weeks ahead of him moving in January.
Despite the latest claims, Mora’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has refused to be drawn on her client’s future.
"Please understand that I don't comment on transfer rumors. I won't say anything at all about the transfer of any player. Thank you very much for your understanding,” Pimenta told Record on links with Liverpool.
