Tottenham Hotspur have shown signs of overcoming their difficult start to the campaign with back-to-back Premier League wins.
Victories over Coventry City and Chelsea have lifted the Lilywhites out of the drop zone. Yet, there remain problems at the top end of the pitch. Roberto De Zerbi was backed heavily during the summer transfer window, as Spurs brought in 10 new players. Three of those joining the club were attackers in the form of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Marmoush is only one of them with a goal contribution in the Premier League this term. Savio and Mudryk are currently out injured. The need for greater quality in wide areas and in front of goal has put the North London club’s scouts all across the world working day and night ahead of the winter transfer window.
Recent reports suggest Tottenham’s interest in signing Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo. Spurs are among several Premier League clubs monitoring the Mozambique international, who has started the new season well with a goal and four assists in nine league appearances for Sporting CP.
Geny Catamo has become a key member of Sporting CP’s squad over the last couple of years. The 25-year-old’s dribbling, pace, dynamism and versatility in attacking roles have caught the eye of several clubs across Europe.
Now, according to a report from German outlet Fussball News, the nippy winger remains under contract at Sporting CP until June 2029, with a €60 million release clause. The Portuguese club are unwilling to lower their asking price, placing them in a strong negotiating position. They only intend to let their star player go if an interested party is willing to pay the full release clause.
Interest in the Mozambique talent is rising. Clubs from England such as Leeds United, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Everton and Brentford are all monitoring the Sporting attacker, who is also wanted by Serie A duo AC Milan and FC Como.

Having already rejected €40M bids, the Portuguese club are holding out strictly for his €60M release clause@ekremkonur @fussball_newshttps://t.co/yOSjKD8dxC https://t.co/ZaocUzwlaB pic.twitter.com/eVIcgGN3fV
Sporting are in a position of authority over Catamo’s future. Any prospective suitor hoping to snatch the African talent away from the José Alvalade Stadium will have to pay his €60 million release clause.
Catamo is a left-footed winger who can operate on either flank and centrally as a No.10. He is creative, a good crosser of the ball, tenacious, and can chip in with assists and score goals. However, Tottenham have the likes of Savio, Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski who are left-footed and can play in multiple attacking roles.
So, De Zerbi has three options that are similar to Catamo’s profile, and unless one of them leaves, it doesn’t make sense to splash €60 million for the player’s services. Instead, the Hotspur Way chiefs must focus on signing a new No.9 in the winter transfer window.
