Red Bull won eight Drivers’ Championships under Christian Horner’s leadership with those honours split between Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

Christian Horner was on the pit wall for Sebastian Vettel’s four consecutive titles between 2010-2013 and then for Max Verstappen’s four championships between 2021-2024.

Horner has ruled out a return to Red Bull as he flirts with a return to the F1 paddock, but he was recently asked to rank his former drivers, including Vettel and Verstappen.

Which of Christian Horner’s Red Bull targets would’ve tested Max Verstappen the most?

Christian Horner picks out Red Bull’s best ever driver

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Horner was asked whether he would put Vettel or Verstappen higher in his list of top five Red Bull drivers.

“That’s tough, but I think even by Sebastian’s admission, I think what we are seeing with Max is a generational talent,” Horner said.

“We were very fortunate to have such great drivers.

“Sebastian was incredible in that period between 2010 and 2013. I think Max has managed to surpass that because the talent, the commitment, the ability, the relentlessness he has is quite outstanding.”

There you have it. Horner clearly feels Verstappen is Red Bull’s greatest-ever driver, and he is even confident that Vettel would agree with him.

Sebastian Vettel is a huge Max Verstappen fan

Vettel shared the track with Verstappen for years, and he has not shied away from praising the Dutch driver.

“Max is demonstrating at the minute that he’s pulling off something that’s never been done before,” Vettel said during the 2023 season.

“I think Max is a great driver. He’s able to adapt very quickly. He’s able to be very comfortable in the uncomfortable. He’s learned and understood.”

Vettel added: “He will get better in that regard, providing he’s paying attention. But I think he is. He’s not distracted, he’s not worrying about which sneakers to put on in the morning and happy to go racing. That’s what he loves.”
