Tarik Muharemovic has outlined that his chat with Dominic Calvert-Lewin just seconds before his assist for his Leeds United teammate against Manchester United had nothing to do with the corner routine.
The defender was seen in brief conversation with Calvert-Lewin only moments before Anton Stach took the set-piece that led to him knocking the ball down for the striker to hammer home his 20th goal in a Leeds shirt.
Muharemovic was self-critical of his role in the opening goal for Man Utd, inferring he should have done better to stop Youri Tielemans’ cross for Bryan Mbuemo’s sliding finish on 35 minutes. But he made up for it with his assist six minutes after half-time in the 1-1 draw.
The centre-back has since been asked about that pre-corner chat with Calvert-Lewin. "He said to look up when I have the ball to play a chip ball to him, like a long ball to him," he told club media . "Then I saw Anton was already taking the corner, so I had to go."
Muharemovic’s set-up was his second assist of the season, his first being a swooped ball forward for Calvert-Lewin when he got his second of the game during the 4-1 win over Newcastle United.

The summer signing has also opened his own account for Leeds, heading home the opener against Chelsea in September’s 6-3 League Cup defeat. At the other end, Muharemovic has made 38 headed clearances in the Premier League so far - the fourth-highest across the division.
Asked about his aerial ability, the 23-year-old explained: "I think I learned it from my dad because he was also in the family or with his friends, always the best at heading.
"So every time we trained together, it was him saying, 'You have to be better with the headers.' So I used to concentrate more on the headers. It's important.
“I was also at a young age, always the kid who goes up for corners, headers and stuff, so maybe the other players didn't do it. I did it. Obviously, now since I play the professional game, I had to adapt also.

“So I needed time to also get in shape to attack corners, to defend corners. I think there's still the possibility to be even better, but I'm quite happy right now."
On the subject of his father, Rasim has been spotted in the Leeds crowd watching his son in action. This has long been a common theme throughout his career, says his son.
"My dad loves it, he comes to every game, every away game,” said Tarik. “I know the away fans saw him at Forest.
“In Italy he also went to all the home games and some of the away games, but I think this year he said he can't miss any of the Premier League games. He's really enjoying it, and he also knows that the Premier League is the best league in the world."
