Watch Klay Thompson hit overtime game-winner to beat Clippers, cap 30-point night

Inglewood, Calif. — These are the moments Klay Thompson lives for: His team down two, the game on the line and he rises for the last shot.

Splash.

“I can’t lie to you, felt really good,” Thompson said.

That shot capped off Thompson’s first 30-point game since he was still a Warrior in 2024. The Warriors needed every one of those points — and that game-winning final shot — to beat the Clippers 117-116 in overtime at the Intuit Dome.

When asked about that shot, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra pointed out the screen Bam Adebayo set on the baseline to free Thompson for the game-winning corner 3.

"[Thompson] had great timing on that, and then Bam had one heck of a screen...” Erik Spoelstra said. “It was fitting to be able to finish the game that way.”

“Screeners don’t usually get a lot of credit, but that’s probably my best screen, for sure...” said Adebayo, who led the Heat with 35 points. “I just had to make sure I got him open. The guy is one of the greatest shooters in league history. So my biggest thing was to make sure he got open.”

Thompson has had an up-and-down start to his first season in Miami, with his defense being the real cause for concern. However, both Spoelstra and Thompson said the conditioning and extra work Thompson has put in — and continues to put in — is what paid off on the court.

“I feel amazing. I haven’t felt this good in a long time,” said Thompson, who has pushed through injuries in recent years. “No pain in my lower Limbs, and I’m so grateful to be here. I mean, they hold me accountable, the training staff and the coaching staff, and I feel amazing. I haven’t felt this good to start a season in years.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo added 27 points for the Heat, plus hit some clutch free throws. Darius Garland led the Clippers with 26 points.

Next up for Thompson and the Heat: A trip to the Bay Area to take on Klay’s former team, the Golden State Warriors. A team with a pretty good shooter of their own — but Thompson is in a groove and had more than one white-hot night in the Chase Center.
