Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover is on the field for pregame warmups against Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 24, despite suffering an apparent injury in Week 7's loss to Ohio State.
The first-year transfer from TCU played through the injury late in the 19-15 loss, as he appeared to aggravate something on his right throwing arm. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Saturday that Hoover is playing through an arm and wrist issue.
Hoover has been one of the best quarterbacks in college football this season, with 1,660 passing yards and 19 total touchdowns to no interceptions. He ranks No. 2 nationally with a 89.0 QBR while completing 63.9% of his passes and 9.8 yards per attempt.
The fourth-year starter was 20-of-40 passing for 296 yards with a touchdown against the Buckeyes in Week 7, and nearly threw a game-winning touchdown in the final moments, although Nick Marsh wasn't able to stay in bounds on the catch.
Here's what to know of Hoover's injury and Indiana's quarterback situation against the Wolverines on Saturday:
Hoover is playing through an arm/wrist injury against Michigan, Thamel reported during ESPN's "College GameDay" on Saturday.
Hoover was clearly bothered by the apparent injury in Week 7 against Ohio State, suffering the ailment in the second half of the game. Hoover was taken off the field for several plays after suffering the injury against the Buckeyes before returning.
Indiana's backup quarterback is Grant Wilson, a sixth-year senior transfer from Old Dominion. Wilson has 2,828 career passing yards with 25 touchdowns to 11 interceptions and started his career at Fordham.
Wilson passed for 2,149 yards with 17 touchdowns to eight interceptions as ODU's starter in 2023 but lost the job to now-Wisconsin starter Colton Joseph in 2024 before transferring to Indiana for the 2025 and 2026 season. The Hoosiers also have sophomore Tyler Cherry, who has played this season.
Wilson has 74 passing yards and two touchdowns this season behind Hoover.
