Last month, Crusaders withdrew from the process of securing club membership for the 2027 season, but talks with the Rugby Football League (RFL) continued.

But, in a statement, the RFL said: “The Rugby Football League is delighted to announce North Wales Crusaders have secured a place in the Championship for 2027.

“The Colwyn Bay-based outfit had initially withdrawn its bid to take part next season.

“However, owner Jamie Elkaleh has revised his business plan and now satisfied all the governing body’s queries.

“With that in mind, the RFL has been able to grant North Wales membership for 2027 and it looks forward to continuing working with the club to help strengthen rugby league in the region.”

The main stumbling block between the parties was a failure to agree to terms over where an escrow payment of £150,000 would be deposited.

RFL chief executive Ian Nolan added: “I’d like to thank Jamie for all his hard work and diligence in getting to this end game that we all wanted - North Wales Crusaders participating in the Championship and helping our sport flourish.”

The next season will get underway early in 2027.
