At the end of the game, Manchester United’s away fans expressed their support towards Michael Carrick.

Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell reported: “The Man Utd fans drown out a smattering of booes by chanting ‘We love United we do’ as the players go over to thank them.

“Head coach Michael Carrick was received warmly too. They saw their team give it their all today only to be let down by Martinez’s stupidity.”

Players must follow the fans lead and fight

Former player Quinton Fortune told MUTV that he wants the players to take inspiration from the way the supporters refuse to give up on the team.

He said: “I don’t want to see a player give excuses after that. When you see the fans, after what they have been through, at the end of the game.

“They will fight till the end. That’s what I want to see from those players. And those fans are unbelievable.”

United are in desperate times at the moment. The team have not won a Premier League game since August, and it turns November tomorrow.

Michael Carrick’s side were the better team in the first half against Chelsea, but a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal was costly.

Next up United face Roma in the Champions League before facing Aston Villa next Sunday in the Premier League.

Those two games in front of a more nervous home support at Old Trafford will really test the players, and see who really is up for the fight.
