Arsenal Set £55m Price On Striker: Should Arteta Sell Or Give Him Time?

Arsenal transfer news: Arsenal have started the season with another title challenge in sight, but Mikel Arteta still faces decisions over how his attack should operate. A 2-0 win over Everton followed their 2-2 Champions League draw at Bayern Munich, leaving the Gunners competing on two demanding fronts.

Bukayo Saka remains central to Arsenal’s attacking plans, while Kai Havertz offers the manager a forward who can drop into midfield and link play. That flexibility is important in Arteta’s possession-based system, where attackers must combine in tight spaces, press after losing the ball and create openings against deep defensive lines.

Viktor Gyökeres offers a different approach. The Swedish striker prefers direct runs behind defenders, physical battles with centre-backs and quick finishes inside the penalty area. Those qualities can trouble opponents, although Arsenal’s patient build-up can leave him waiting for service when rivals defend deep, raising questions about how well his strengths suit the role Arteta demands.

The 2026–27 campaign has brought limited opportunities for the former Sporting CP forward. He has made 11 appearances across all competitions, totalling 323 minutes, but has yet to score and has supplied two assists. Those numbers add to the questions surrounding his role, although such a small sample doesn’t settle the argument.

Against that backdrop, according to Graeme Bailey’s report on October 17, relayed by Transfer Feed, German clubs rank among the potential destinations being assessed for Gyökeres. Reports also suggest Arsenal could demand around £55 million, close to the fee cited for his arrival from Sporting.

Arsenal transfer news: Should Arsenal accept £55m for Gyökeres or give him more time?

Arsenal should consider a sale, but only if Arteta believes Gyökeres cannot adapt to his demands. Recouping around £55 million would protect the club’s investment and provide funds for a forward better suited to linking with Saka and Martin Ødegaard.

Still, 323 minutes offer limited evidence for a final verdict. Gyökeres needs consistent service, and a settled role before Arsenal judge his contribution fairly. If Arteta has already decided that Havertz offers greater tactical value, however, keeping an expensive striker on the bench makes little sense.

Arsenal would also need a clear replacement plan, because selling without securing a forward suited to Arteta’s system could leave the attack short of options. A German club could offer Gyökeres the regular football his current situation lacks.
