New York Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy already has a dilemma at hand with yet another quarterback change, this time going from Jameis Winston to J.J. McCarthy. And with Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. scheduled to oppose his offensive game plan this upcoming Sunday, Nagy has even more film study work cut out for him.
The Giants rank near the bottom of the NFL in pass protection efficiency and have allowed opponents an average of 3.0 sacks per game through the first six weeks of the 2026 season. To add insult to injury, the Texans rank No. 3 in the NFL in total sacks.
Nagy has to establish the Giants' ground attack with running back Cam Skattebo in Week 7 order for the Giants to have a chance to dictate pace this upcoming Sunday. If not, expect McCarthy to be under tons of pass pressure all afternoon.
The Giants' passing attack has shown glimpses of success this season, but how things function under McCarthy remains to be seen. Nevertheless, Anderson and Texans teammate Danielle Hunter are likely going to wreak havoc on the Giants' offensive line -- especially with their tackles ailing.
To counter the Texans' onslaught, Nagy may deploy more two tight-end sets and utilize some passing screen plays similar to the way the Jacksonville Jaguars did this past weekend.
Ultimately, Nagy has seen Anderson in prior matchups with the Texans as the play caller for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he will be relying on the discretion and discernment of a quarterback not named Patrick Mahomes this weekend at Reliant Stadium.
