Former Leeds Rhinos centre Paul Momirovski has been promoted to a coaching role with NRL champions Sydney Roosters.
The 30-year-old, who joined Leeds Rhinos from the Roosters ahead of the 2024 season before being released halfway through his two-year deal, has taken another step in his post-playing career after impressing in the club’s academy set-up.
His exit from the Rhinos helped free up an overseas quota place, allowing Leeds to sign winger Maika Sivo from Parramatta Eels, with Sivo since going on to be a standout in the most recent 2026 season.
Momirovski returned to Roosters after a season in France with Lezignan and took charge of their under-17s team, who play in the Harold Matthews Cup. He had previously had two spells with the Roosters as a player and quickly made an impact as a coach, steering the side to this year’s Harold Matthews Cup Grand Final, where they lost to Newcastle Knights.
Ironically, the man who was coaching the Knights – former Hull KR man Shaun Kenny-Dowall, another former Rooster – has now replaced Momirovski as the head coach of the Harold Matthews Cup side, and reports in Australia say that the ex-Rhinos man has now been elevated to lead Roosters’ New South Wales Cup side, which is the tier below the NRL or commonly referred to as the NRL reserve grade.
As a player, Momirovski scored seven tries in 24 games for Rhinos before departing. He also played in the NRL for Wests Tigers, Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers, winning the Grand Final with the Panthers in 2021.
