Cole Palmer 'lost his head' in Chelsea's defeat by Spurs: Gary Neville hits out at Blues star after sending off and claims Morgan Rogers should also have seen red

Gary Neville has claimed Cole Palmer 'lost his head' after the Chelsea star was sent off for two quick yellow cards in the defeat by Spurs on Saturday.

Palmer was booked after shoving Mateus Fernandes to the ground before being given his marching orders for what Neville called a 'very naughty' challenge on Conor Gallagher just minutes later.

His dismissal came after Chelsea had fallen behind when Mike Penders inadvertently punched the ball into his own net from a corner.

Ten-man Chelsea's misery was compounded as Mathys Tel doubled Spurs' lead late on as Roberto De Zerbi's side became only the second Tottenham team to win at Stamford Bridge in 36 years.

Speaking on Sky Sports during the game, Neville said: 'Cole Palmer has lost his head. To do that five minutes after the challenge on Fernandes is just silly.

'He sticks his studs in on him, he knows exactly what he's doing. It's not a good challenge. It is naughty, very naughty. He's experienced enough to know.'

Neville said Palmer was fortunate not to see red for the push on Fernandes with the Blues forward furious at the midfielder's deliberate handball.

'Why has Palmer done that? I'm not sure why he reacts,' Neville said.

'Fernandes has handballed it and it's a clear yellow card. Palmer's reaction looks silly. He's asking for trouble.'

A frustrated Morgan Rogers was then booked in the dying moments for kicking Gallagher, a challenge Neville felt should have seen Chelsea reduced to nine.

'I think that's a red. I do,' Neville said.

'He's absolutely wellied him with no intent. That's ludicrous from Rogers. They have lost it. Xabi Alonso needs to get them off.'

Palmer will be available for Chelsea's next league game, at home to Manchester United on Saturday, despite the red card as he will serve his suspension when Alonso's men travel to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
