Tenerife Football Club has announced the tragic death of Jesus de Miguel at just 30 years old, after a horrific on-pitch collision during Monday evening's match.

The shocking incident occurred in the final stages of their Spanish Segunda Division clash with Andorra, as De Miguel pursued a long pass. While attempting to control the ball, he was caught by the raised knee of goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who received an immediate red card for the challenge.

The 30 year old remained unconscious on the turf for several moments before teammates realised the seriousness of the situation and frantically summoned medical staff, leading to the abandonment of the fixture.

De Miguel was immediately transported to hospital, where medical staff confirmed during the early hours that his neurological state was worsening. The Spanish side subsequently confirmed his heartbreaking passing.

In a statement, Tenerife said: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda," reports the Irish Mirror.

"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome.

"The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments."

According to Spanish media outlets, he suffered cardiac arrest but was revived before being rushed to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, where he was placed in intensive care, the Mirror reports.

Video footage from the match captured Owono looking back towards De Miguel, while other players seemed unable to watch the distressing scene unfold. Tenerife initially issued a positive statement on Monday, but later confirmed his condition had worsened before sharing the devastating news of his death.

Their opponents that day, Andorra, subsequently paid tribute on social media, writing: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife."

Former Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, now at Serie A club Fiorentina, also expressed his condolences, sharing an emoji of a broken heart and praying hands on social media.

De Miguel signed for Tenerife at the start of last season, proving instrumental in their promotion to Spain's second tier with 11 goals in 29 appearances. This campaign, he had been used exclusively as a substitute, managing just 81 minutes across 11 matches.

Monday was set to be his longest outing after coming on in the 59th minute with his team 2-0 ahead.

De Miguel is survived by his daughter, Carla de Miguel Fernandez, who was born in 2025.
