Muay Thai proves a big hit at The Hunslet Club

The Hunslet Club is expanding its sporting offer with weekly Muay Thai sessions every Friday, following a successful taster event that saw plenty of enthusiasm and girls getting involved.

The taster sessions gave participants the chance to try something new, learn the basics of Muay Thai and discover a different side of sport. Following positive feedback from families and young people, the club is now introducing regular sessions, with an expanded age range to welcome even more participants.

Sessions take place every Friday at The Hunslet Club, with ages 7+ from 4:30-5:30pm and ages 13+ from 5:30-6:30pm. At just £1.50 per session, it’s an affordable way to get active, learn new techniques and discover a new passion.

The decision to lower the second session’s age limit from 16+ to 13+ reflects the Club’s commitment to listening to its community and creating opportunities that meet the needs of local young people.

With 84 years of experience in bringing sport and young people together, The Hunslet Club continues to evolve its activities beyond traditional team sports. Its commitment to opening up more opportunities for girls is also reflected in its football provision, supported by investment through the Football Foundation and initiatives such as the Lionesses Futures Fund. These efforts help create more opportunities for girls to get involved in sport and discover activities they enjoy.

The Muay Thai sessions will be led by experienced coach Declan Shipley, who has a passion for Muay Thai and professional boxing and is excited to share his knowledge with the next generation.

Whether young people want to improve their fitness, build confidence, learn new skills or simply try something different, the new Friday sessions offer another way to get involved at The Hunslet Club.
