Producing a professional footballer for a non-league team is a challenge. Developing an England international is nearly impossible.
Guernsey manager Tony Vance has achieved both, giving prodigy Alex Scott his debut in men's football before he moved to Bristol City and Bournemouth, with the youngster now linked with a move to the Premier League elite.
Scott featured for Vance's team 15 times, making his debut as a substitute against Phoenix Sports in August 2019 and becoming the club's youngest-ever player.
After being released by Southampton's academy, the young midfielder became "a bit disillusioned", according to the Guernsey boss, but was "motivated" again after playing in Vance's set-up.
He told the People's Channel: "The incredible thing with Alex is that I've always just found whatever environment he's in, he just seems to up his level.
"I'm good friends with Brian Tinnion, who was at Bristol City. Obviously that's where he ended up going… Brian said to me: 'You can always tell a good player, because every time they go to an inner situation, and they can up their level, then they're a player.' That always stuck in my mind."
