It will probably surprise few to learn that Brooks Koepka did not take Bryson DeChambeau’s side when asked about his comments concerning Rory McIlroy after the final round at The Masters in 2025.
Bryson DeChambeau came in for criticism following the first major of the season last year having played the last round alongside Rory McIlroy as the Northern Irishman desperately attempted to finally complete the Career Grand Slam.
DeChambeau even took the lead in the very early stages on Sunday. However, he soon fell out of contention, so it was not the best look when DeChambeau revealed to the media that McIlroy did not speak to him at all during the round.
Some ridiculed DeChambeau as his comments did sound petty. And now Brooks Koepka has been asked about what the two-time US Open champion said.
Of course, Koepka and DeChambeau have had an interesting relationship over the years. Koepka, in particular, has made no secret of his dislike for DeChambeau at times.
And while they did appear to patch things up, it seems safe to assume that they are unlikely to be spending much time together anytime soon.
Asked on Dan on Golf what he made of DeChambeau’s comments, Koepka insisted that McIlroy made the right decision.

Does Scottie Scheffler have a responsibility to play more of a global schedule as the world No.1 golfer? Scottie rarely travels outside of the United States to compete…
“He shouldn’t have [talked to him]. He lives in his own world. I don’t think many people want to talk to him regardless,” he said.
“But yeah, I wouldn’t have spoken to Rory, and I don’t think Rory would have spoken to me. It would’ve been totally fine. It’s like I understand what you’re trying to do, it’s totally good. I fully understand it, I’m not a big talker. I’ll talk a little bit, first couple of holes.
“Jackson [Koivun], right, don’t know him, I might just say something just to get to know him a little bit more, whatever it is, where he’s living, family, where’s he playing at, but then after that, it’s like cool, I’m just going to go do me. See ya, and I don’t feel bad. And if guys don’t talk, it’s okay, it’s their job.”
Like Koepka, McIlroy has not been afraid to share what he thinks of DeChambeau. He was extremely critical of him during this year’s Open Championship.
The game’s civil war seemed to impact what McIlroy thought of DeChambeau, with the latter becoming one of those who moved to LIV Golf in 2022. And of course, they were the two men who battled it out for the US Open title in 2024.
Later on in 2025, McIlroy revealed he made a deliberate effort to avoid DeChambeau during the last round at The Masters.
“I said that to [Bob] Rotella. We always met by the caddie area there before I went to the range every day and he said ‘how are you feeling today?’ I said ‘I’m feeling good, I’m feeling good about my stuff’. But I said to him the one thing I am uneasy about is just the pairing,” he said.
“He said ‘just make him invisible’. He goes don’t engage, don’t look at him, just get lost in your own little world. You have Harry beside you, have him be your companion and just get lost in that world.”
McIlroy was vindicated for the approach he took that day as he ultimately stumbled across the line and secured sporting immortality.
Certainly, Koepka can clearly understand why McIlroy did take that stance.
