Blitzburgh is back! The Pittsburgh Steelers' defense has looked outstanding through eight games this season, as the team's unit leads the NFL in one huge statistical category.
Courtesy of an astounding feat brought to light by Pro Football Focus, the Steelers' defense has recorded the most sacks since 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020, in addition to the team's league-leading 26 sacks this season.
According to StatMuse, the Steelers are No. 1 in team sacks since 1990 with 1,613, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles with 1,562 at No. 2, the New Orleans Saints with 1,514 at No. 3, the Denver Broncos with 1,493 at No. 4, and the Minnesota Vikings with 1,490 at No. 5.
Through eight games in 2026, the Steelers' top-five sack leaders are as follows: OLB T.J. Watt with 7.5, OLB Alex Highsmith with 3.5, OLB Nick Herbig with 3.0, DT Cameron Heyward with 2.5, and LB Patrick Queen with 2.5.
Pittsburgh has a real shot at finishing the season with the most team sacks, but the Vikings, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, and Broncos are right on their tail. But the Steelers are likely more focused on bringing another Lombardi home to the Steel City, which seems more and more realistic with every passing week.
