Hürzeler tells Brighton and Hove Albion to keep calm at Liverpool
Manager of Brighton and Hove Albion’s women team dismissed after allegations

Brighton and Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler intends to keep his team grounded and focused on consistent performances rather than getting carried away at how high they are in the Premier League table.

The Seagulls are perched in third place in the Premier League table on the back of an impressive start, with five wins and just one draw and one defeat.

They are both the top scorers, with 23 goals in seven games, and they have the best goal difference – plus 18 compared with fifth-placed Liverpool’s plus 1.

Hürzeler, though, wants his players to continue to show the required mindset rather than get swept up in all the plaudits coming their way.

He told a press conference before the trip to Liverpool: “I had a conversation with the players and I love the way they are thinking.

“They said: ‘We don’t want to focus on results. We want to focus on performances and how we want to get better, how we can improve as a team because then the results will come.’

“Then we can speak at the end of the season about where we are, where we should have been.

“But now it is really about solution-focused, process-orientated and trying to get the best out of the players. That is also the mindset and that is very positive.”

A much-changed Brighton had to settle for a goalless draw in their Conference League tie away at Jablonec, in Czechia, on Thursday night (22 October).

Hürzeler knows that his team cannot afford to let their standards slip if they are to leave Anfield with a positive result tomorrow Sunday (25 October).

He said: “We know what we can expect from Liverpool – very intense pressing so (it will be) a very intense game.

“Anfield is always a very special environment and atmosphere. We have to be prepared mentally and physically but we seem to be in a good place.”

Liverpool are fifth, with 12 points from seven matches, having won three and drawn three. They have lost just once but have scored just nine goals and conceded eight.
