During the offseason, there were rumors that Domantas Sabonis could be heading out of Sacramento. The speculation has picked up after NBA insider Sean Deveney reported on Sunday that the Kings center is “not enthused about playing with a ball-dominant guard like (Darius) Acuff (Jr.).”
With the Kings finding their scoring machine of the future in Acuff, it’s possible that they’ll pull the trigger on a deal that sends Sabonis to another team. Some squads have been linked to the 6-foot-10 big man for some time, while others could still enter the conversation to acquire Sabonis’ services.
At the start of the season, CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn pointed to the Raptors as a good fit for Sabonis, making the argument that the Raptors are “so loaded defensively that they can cover his vulnerabilities on that end of the floor.” With Kawhi Leonard’s health once again a red flag, a Sabonis trade makes even more sense now for Toronto.
Another team that has figured in Sabonis trade rumors is the Charlotte Hornets. In September, Jake Fischer reported that the Hornets’ interest in Sabonis “is still generally there, even if they weren’t exactly motivated to meet the Kings’ asking price.” Could Sabonis be the piece that the Hornets need to become a bona fide playoff contender?
A team loaded with explosive wings, Phoenix could use some more scoring from the center position, and Sabonis can provide just that. The 11-year pro can also provide mentorship for young bigs like 20-year-old Khaman Maluach and 24-year-old Mark Williams.
The Warriors are perpetually searching for a reliable big man. Maybe it’s time that they seriously consider adding Sabonis to the mix. After all, the question marks surrounding Kristaps Porzingis’ health are too big to ignore at this point.
There remains a Giannis Antetokounmpo-shaped hole in the Bucks’ roster. Filling in the void left by the Greek Freak has been challenging for Milwaukee thus far, and acquiring Sabonis could go a long way in restocking the Bucks’ firepower.
