Ipswich Keeper Faces Valencia Loan Doubt
ITFC IMAGE - 24/08/26

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen has had his loan move at Valencia hampered by injury.

The 23-year-old was brought to the club on loan for the season in August to gain first-team experience. However, the Dutchman has failed to impress in the league and has not played any competitive football.

This will cause a rumour that his loan may be terminated prematurely. Valencia have announced that van Oevelen has been diagnosed with a knee injury to his right knee during training yesterday. He will now undergo treatment.

While not a major injury, it is thought he will be out for a period of two to three weeks, probably limiting his impact.

Frustrating Loan Spell

Van Oevelen has failed to impress since signing for the Spanish club. He hasn’t had much first-team action as he has struggled to break into the side, and he hasn’t made any progress. Increasing reports claim that he may now leave on loan to another club from Ipswich.

Van Oevelen made the move to the Blues from Volendam in a reported 3.4 million deal in July. The young shot-stopper has a big club behind him in the form of Ipswich and will be eager to get some game time.

Recall Clause in January

In Spain, it is said that Ipswich have a recall clause in January for van Oevelen. If he does not feature in more than half of Valencia’s first team matches in the period from their end-of-season international break in November up to Christmas, then the Blues will be able to recall him without paying a fee.

They could have three matches in La Liga in this period and three in the Copa del Rey.

With his lack of appearances and an injury now, the chances of him achieving any targets seem slim. It has also been alleged that Valencia are looking at other options, so there are rumours building that he will not remain at the club for the remainder of the season.

Original Plan

Van Oevelen was another one that had a plan in front of him. It was said the Blues were going to loan him to the Championship, but that had been halted because Christian Walton picked up a foot injury during pre-season. A loan move to Valencia was a great opportunity to develop within one of the top leagues in Europe.

It hasn’t quite worked out as they would have wanted; he hasn’t featured as much as they would have liked. With no football and an injury to get over the coming weeks could be decisive in whether he remains in Spain after January or returns to Ipswich and pursues other options.
