Wrexham boss Parkinson backs Cadamarteri to step up

The 21-year-old has found chances limited since joining Wrexham from Sheffield Wednesday in the January transfer window and is yet to start a game, with the Jamaican international making three substitute appearances in the Championship for the Reds in the second half of last season before coming off the bench four times this term in the league.

Kieffer Moore and Smith, set for a 'significant period' on the sidelines with a knee injury, have led the line together or on their own when Parkinson has used a lone striker so although he has had to be patient, Parkinson has always viewed Cadamarteri as a long-term project.

However, the Reds' boss feels the young frontman is ready to make an impact when called upon, having benefited from valuable minutes during the international break and consistently impressing in training.

"Bailey's ready and chomping at the bit," he said.

"With Sam's injury he's going to get opportunities and more game time which he's been craving and I'm looking forward to seeing that as well.

"At the start of the season, Kieffer did well and Smudge was outstanding against Preston, he's had some good games as well.

"Bailey has found himself in that kind of next-one-in scenario.

"But I've been speaking to him, me and Steve (Parkin) have had a lot of sit down chats with him and he's brought his agent in for a chat and we've said, look, this is the situation.

"We brought you in as a young striker to work with you on the training pitch, you've done that great and your moment will come.

"The thing is with Bailey, he got his game-time in the international break so he's had those minutes.

"We've been pleased with how he's trained, he's trained well and when he's called upon, or if he's called upon, he's ready."
