Real Madrid is considering a move for Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori next summer, according to Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk. The Spanish club has already made inquiries, with people close to the Italy international aware of its interest.
Jose Mourinho reportedly regards the 24-year-old as his preferred option at left-back. Calafiori’s experience in central defense also appeals to Madrid, which is assessing potential additions for the summer of 2027.
Arsenal intends to keep him. His contract runs until 2029, and the report says the club would reject the idea of a sale, giving Madrid a difficult task if it decides to pursue a deal.
Calafiori joined Arsenal from Bologna in July 2024 after helping the Italian club qualify for the Champions League. He had recorded five Serie A assists that season and earned a place in Italy’s European Championship squad, having made his senior international debut shortly before the tournament.
His attacking contribution has continued in England. He scored in this season’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City and provided two assists in Arsenal’s first three league games. Jamie Carragher praised his influence against Chelsea in September, highlighting how his positioning created space for teammates.
Madrid’s defensive planning also includes a reported buyback move for Como’s Jacobo Ramon, although the club would still have to decide whether the Spaniard would remain in its first-team squad.
At Arsenal, Calafiori is among the players whose contract the club plans to address in 2027. Bailey reports that extensions for Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice take priority, with the Italian’s terms due to receive attention once those discussions are resolved.
