Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton ruled out vs. Jaguars with hip injury

The Baltimore Ravens suffered another significant injury setback Thursday night, losing All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton to a hip injury during their Week 9 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens announced that Hamilton had been ruled out for the remainder of the game, leaving Baltimore without one of its most important defensive players against quarterback Trevor Lawrence and a Jacksonville offense capable of attacking defenses through the air.

The team confirmed Hamilton's status on its official social media account, and reporters Jeff Zrebiec, Jamison Hensley and Brian Wacker also reported the injury. The severity of Hamilton's injury and whether it could affect his availability beyond Thursday night were not immediately known

Hamilton's injury creates another problem for Ravens defense

Hamilton's departure represents a significant loss for a Baltimore secondary already dealing with injury concerns. Safety Jaylinn Hawkins was ruled out before Thursday's matchup because of a knee injury, leaving the Ravens with even less flexibility at the position.

Hamilton's versatility has made him one of the most valuable pieces of Baltimore's defensive scheme. The former Notre Dame standout can play deep safety, move closer to the line of scrimmage, cover tight ends and running backs, and contribute as a blitzer.

His ability to handle multiple responsibilities lets defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver disguise coverages and create different looks without making wholesale personnel changes.

Without Hamilton, Baltimore faces the challenge of replacing a player whose responsibilities extend well beyond those of a traditional safety.

The injury is particularly concerning against Lawrence, who has the arm strength to challenge defenses vertically and force defensive backs to communicate effectively across multiple coverage assignments.

Ravens face growing injury concerns

Hamilton had already dealt with a right knee injury entering Baltimore's Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. He returned to practice and was cleared to play against Buffalo, but Thursday's hip injury introduces another health concern for the fifth-year defensive back. CBS Sports

The Ravens entered Thursday's game without starting quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is recovering from a right thumb injury, while backup Tyler Huntley was also unavailable because of a toe injury. Rookie Joe Fagnano was thrust into the starting role against Jacksonville. NFL

Hamilton's departure adds another complication for head coach Jesse Minter as Baltimore navigates a critical stretch of its season.

For now, the Ravens must finish Thursday's matchup without their most versatile defensive back. Hamilton's status moving forward will depend on additional medical evaluation and the team's updates following the game.

The immediate concern is how Baltimore adjusts its secondary without Hamilton and Hawkins against a Jacksonville passing attack that can exploit communication breakdowns and unfavorable matchups.
